How would the game industry differ without Grand Theft Auto?
Grand Theft Auto has a huge fan base across the globe; the
sales of the latest GTA show how much the public love this franchise. The sales
for GTA on the first day were through the roof. GTA has made around 800 million
dollars in one day. IGN have reported that they have made this sum at around
the first 24 hours of release. GTA was supposed to make all of the money they
invested into the game from pre – orders alone.
The developers and the publishers of GTA is Rockstar and
they help the games industry a lot with supplying 100s of jobs. So I think that
yes we still need GTA as it is a massive part of the industry as the stats
provide it creates a huge amount of money and creates loads of jobs for people
at Rockstar North to other locations where Rockstar are based.
The target audience of GTA are generally young adults as
that will be where most of the money comes in from. Then again the older
generation will buy the game as well as it has a broad market. GTA does have
female and male audience even though there have been reports of anti - feminism
with in the game.
So I think that having GTA in the games industry is still a
good idea, but away from the financial point of view and then the graphical structures
come into play and the environment and characters of the game are beautiful with
little details such as marks in a path or to characters hair. This creates a
standard of level where games are heading and how real a game can look.
With these massive games companies such as Take Two who have
loads of money to kill and invest in games such as GTA 5, should there be a
price cap on how much games companies can spend on a project as it has negative
effects on other companies. The smaller companies can’t match Rockstars huge
200 plus million dollar budget, the answer is no and even though there are
problems with this as smaller companies shut down because they can’t match
richer companies.
The games industry now has two sides instead of everyone
being in the middle companies like Bethesda and Rockstar who have a large
budget to work with aim to be the top game on the year and then the low budget companies
like a small indie developer or rebellion who aren’t that massive will be in
the lower section as they make do with what they get.
I think that companies should be able to invest as much as
they like because it’s their money. It’s fair as everyone makes a bit of money
back, even the cheaper budget companies.
